In my third season of cycling, seeing how far my bike will take me.

SERRL Sandhurst/Benenden

Race Report: Sandhurst/Benenden Serrl

On the 19th September, Charlie Fawke, Drew Holmes and Will Kemp, with assistance from Nathan Boschma from the Onelife Fuga RT squad, were racing in one of the last SERRL events of the summer.  Drew was team captain for the day and the plan was to send Will off in a break when possible.  There were a large number of riders of similar strength and strong crosswinds which kept the pack together.  Drew, Charlie and Nathan all buried themselves to launch Will but no one had the strength to jump across and so the breaks kept on getting dragged back in.  Only of the 4th lap of 6 did Andrew Dolan of Team Toachim get away.  He gained a 90 second lead at one point.  Will and Charlie were still in the pack trying to make a move.  Will jumped off the front with Robert Moore of London Phoenix and rode across to Dolan thanks to Charlie breaking the chase up in the pack despite being called "words he had never even heard of".  In the 3 way sprint to the finish, Will came in 2nd place behind Robert Moore, missing out by a bike length with Dolan coming in third.  Charlie finished off a very good ride coming in 17th. Drew had stomach problems half way through the race but will do well next weekend at Lamberhurst/Frant in the SERRL champs.

Big thanks must go to Trevor Holmes (www.holmescouriers.co.uk) and Dan Bennett (www.progressivecyclecoaching.co.uk) for their support and motivational team talk.  Thanks also to Nathan for getting in the mix and riding so hard.
