SERRL 23 Fowlmead 5/9/10 Will Kemp 2nd, Drew Holmes
A quick early pace on a perfect day for racing. Luke Ryan and Andrew Meilak attacked a decent 1,2,3 field early on and everyone looked around as they built a steady lead of around a minute. The bunch gradually began to work to pull them back and started going through and off to catch them. This had some success as the break began to come back. I then rode off the front of the bunch on my own over to the break and worked as a three to stay away building a sizeable lead around the circuit in strong winds with the help of Drew Holmes blocking and disrupting the chase. As the bell lap came around, the pace continued until the final straight with a strong headwind. I made Luke Ryan lead out the break but timed my sprint a fraction too late to come round him and missed out on the win by half a wheel length, coming in 2nd. Drew was unfortunate as in the closing laps the thread on his crank came disintegrated and his crank came loose but his efforts were very much appreciated. Good to get top three after a hard months training which will pay off for the end of the season races. Much more to come.
